Skincare routine for that perfect wedding day glow

Today I wanted to talk a bit about creating a skincare routine for yourself to get you ready for your big day. With many of us being nervous about getting into a spa for facials, at home care is more important then ever.

A good skincare routine should ideally consist a daily care as well as bi weekly/weekly treatments. Let’s start with the daily routine and today we will cover a great cleanser and a toner/mist.

Starting with a good quality cleanser is so important. Products that clean without stripping your skin are the best. I love cleansing oils and creams.

My favorite is is The Great Cleanse - Nourishing Supercritical Cleansing Oil by Maya Chia. It is an oil that you apply on dry skin and rub all over to remove all makeup and impurities, then you add warm water and it will emulsify. It will easily rinse off not leaving any oily residue.

Chia seed and proprietary blend of oils gently and effortlessly dissolves makeup and impurities completely. Soothing natural botanicals, such as Roman chamomile, Lavender, Neroli and Jasmine calm the skin for a radiant glow. All the Maya Chia product have also amazing scent. You will definitely feel like you are at the spa every time you use it.

Another great product for a dry complexion is Pa’akai Cleansing Cream by Honua Skincare. It is an incredibly nourishing, calming and refreshing cleanser. This one you will also apply to dry skin and then rinse of with a warm wash cloth.

It contains Pa’akai - Hawaiian Salt to balance, protect and restore the skin. As well as Hibiscus - a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids to help exfoliate, prevent breakouts and speed up cell turnover. And last but not least a Seaweed extract which contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids with skin rejuvenating and healing properties.

After properly cleansing your skin is important to follow up with an exfoliating and ph balancing toner.

I love The Optimist - Face Mist by Maya Chia. It is designed to work effortlessly into your regimen, combining the lightweight feel of a mist, with the high-performance ingredients of an essence.

The Optimist provides a powerful, yet weightless, boost of hydration for the appearance of plumper, deeply moisturized, more luminous skin.

A proprietary blend of antioxidants, amino acids, polysaccharides, phytonutrients, and fatty acids, such as Sake, White Tea, Chia Seed, Astaxanthin, and Licorice Extracts for radiant, nourished, glowing skin.

Another great exfoliating toner is Hawaiian Beauty Water by Honua Skincare. This one you will apply using a cotton pad like a regular toner.

It contains Hibiscus  - a powerful antioxidant which helps to even skin tone and tighten pores. As well as Coconut Water which hydrates and refreshes the skin for a dewy finish and Papaya, Ko and Willow Bark – 3 types of exfoliants (AHA, BHA and Enzymes) for a healthy glow.

All of the above products are clean, non-toxic, cruelty-free and sustainable packaged in glass bottles. Each line uses the powerful natural ingredients for amazing results.

I hope you enjoy and reach out if you have any questions or comments. Next time we will cover serums and moisturizers.

Elise and her Gatsby Inspired wedding

When Elise came for her bridal makeup and hair review she definitely had a vision of how she wanted to look. Her wedding was inspired by the glamour of the 20’s with art deco elements and rich colors and textures.

For her hair she definitely wanted a soft “hollywood” waves, she was just made for this look and it suited her perfectly.

For her makeup we started with a red lip and simple eye look with glam lashes, however we ended up deciding that she felt more comfortable with softer lip color and more dramatic eye.

Together with the gorgeous dress by Pronovias and handsome husband she looked like a Hollywood Star herself!

You might have noticed that we have been a little behind our blogs posts for the last few months. Well we have a good explanation for that! In addition to a busy weddings season we also opened a new Natural Beauty Store in Philadelphia Ola Beauty.

Here is a little story behind it:

I was on vacation in Hawaii with my family when it all started. A nature lover, I had returned to a beach that had been a favorite on previous trips and was appalled to find it had become an ugly mess. Heaps of plastic had washed up and destroyed this once-beautiful Hawaiian shore.

Of the 9.1 billion tons of plastic produced since it was first introduced in the 1950s, most has never been recycled—with far too much ending up in the seas, finding its way into fish and killing coral reefs. I decided to help change that.

Other industries have made steps toward eliminating plastic, but the beauty industry is still far behind.

It was a challenge, I admit, to come up with products that don’t use plastic containers, yet are also highly effective. I didn’t want to sell any makeup or skincare items I wouldn’t use myself or in my work. My makeup clients often ask if they can buy a product I’m using during an appointment. If I sell a product, I want to be sure I know it inside and out.

So the products I chose had to meet several criteria: Be made of natural, non-chemical ingredients that are good for your skin, offer effective performance under a range of conditions, be designed to last for a good amount of time on your shelf, and contain low or no plastic.

Within the selection, I offer products designed for different skin needs and ones that offer specific types of performance at various price points. If I feel a client can get reasonably similar results from one product rather than two or three, that’s the solution I typically recommend.

Now that’s how I define sustainable beauty—as a holistic, mindful approach to sourcing, choosing and using products.

When you ask me or one of my makeup artists for advice, you can feel confident we are pointing you towards a product that’s not only eco-friendly and good for your skin, but one you can trust to work well for your needs and also use on a regular basis rather than gather dust at the back of your bathroom cabinet.

The name Ola happens to be my nickname in Polish, but in Hawaiian, “ola” means well-being and thriving. In a nutshell, Ola Beauty is about skincare, body care and makeup you can feel good about in every way.

Huffington Post Article!

We hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful summer weather. We definitely are and so are our lovely brides and clients. We do have some tricks of the trade on what products and techinques to use to help with the longevity of the makeup.

Aleksandra had the honor of sharing some of her favorite heat resistnat products with HuffPost, they include Armani Beauty, Danessa Myricks and Cozzette beauty. Head over to the article for more!

Real Bride Stephanie

Stephanie was one gorgeous bride! Her look was one of my favorites; simple polished makeup and a classic bun. You really can not go wrong when you choose style that is timeless and classic. We always encourage our brides to stay away from anything too trendy as that will not translate well in time. You want to look at your photos in 5, 10, 20 years and still be happy with the way you looked. Think classic Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly - their style withstand the test of time and thats the kind of look you should choose for your wedding day.
